Our Stories

I didn’t know how to speak English so it was pretty hard for me to communicate with my teachers and friends but Ms. Howell did everything for me. I had no friends so during recess I would sit on the friendship bench and one day Ms. Howell came outside and sat by me. She tried to communicate with me by using hand signs because I didn’t speak English. Ms. Howell would support me by talking to me and teaching me English and she would share her snacks with me.  II love her so much and I wish I could see her again and hope she still remembers me.

Meli G., former 5th grade student

My "why" in teaching is to create equity in education to be fair and evolving, always dependent on the individual learner’s needs to be successful academically, socially, and emotionally.
